Lead Building Cleaner (Relief)

St. John’s Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (SJSEL) is currently seeking an individual who is energetic, dependable, organized and would enjoy working in a fast paced and exciting environment. The successful candidate will be required to coordinate and supervise the various activities of the Building Cleaners at Mary Brown’s Centre and St. John’s Convention Centre. The candidate will ensure a high level of cleaning standards are maintained through regular contact and proactive attention to facility and client needs.

The successful candidate for this position must be a member of CUPE Local 5459 or should be prepared to join the union immediately upon appointment. This position will report to the Facilities Coordinator. The functions of the position will assist with ensuring the successful execution of world-class musical, sports, business, cultural, and family entertainment and conferences taking place at Mary Brown’s Centre and the St. John’s Convention Centre.

This position will include, but is not limited to:
• Providing guidance to the Building Cleaners in cleaning of all areas
• Building Cleaning activities include:
• Cleaning/disinfecting common areas according to established standards and frequencies
• Bowl cleaning
• Detailed cleaning and maintenance of washrooms
• Large scale ballroom deep cleaning
• Sweeping and mopping
• Vacuuming
• Operating floor scrubber, carpet extractor, baler, and compactor
• Glass cleaning
• Elevator polishing
• Removing garbage and recycling to maintain order and cleanliness
• Ensuring storage rooms are kept clean and organized
• Ensure all Building Cleaners are properly trained for their duties
• Performs all work assignments safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations that apply to this work and other related legislation, St. John’s Sports & Entertainment Ltd. standards, and quality checks
• Ensure safety, good housekeeping and quality standards are maintained.

• Maintain a positive working relationship with all contractors, service providers and colleagues

Other duties may be required in the building cleaning of the Mary Brown’s Centre and the St. John’s Convention Centre.

The ideal candidate should possess:
Education
• High school diploma or equivalent

Specific Skills/Certifications
• Ability to supervise and assist with the training of the Building Cleaner team
• Strong interpersonal, customer service, organization, and communication skills

Ability to lead in a team environment
• Must have the ability to lead a team and work safely with equipment and chemicals
• Bowl cleaning experience at Mary Brown’s Centre is required
• Experience with industrial cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, carpet extractor (shampooer), baler and compactor.
• Experience with large scale ballroom deep cleaning operations.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out verbal and written instructions accurately and quickly and to deal with people in a tactful, diplomatic manner.
• Participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work.

Relevant Experience
• Minimum of three (3) years’ detailed cleaning experience in a similar setting
• Minimum of one (1) years’ leadership experience

Other
• Candidates possessing an equivalent combination of education and experience that is deemed acceptable by St. John’s Sports & Entertainment Ltd. may be considered.

The compensation for the position will be as per the Collective Agreement.
