We manage both the Mary Brown’s Centre, the largest arena and entertainment venue in NL; and the St. John’s Convention Centre, the largest and most dynamic meetings and conventions space in NL.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, our Manager – Building Operations will play a critical role in driving cost-efficient decision-making, contributing to the organization's overall success.
Key Responsibilities:
As our Manager – Building Operations, you'll be at the center of the decision making and a key strategic member of our leadership team. Your responsibilities will include:
• Provide oversight and management of heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems for both properties including:
o Ammonia Ice Plant system
o Electrical power generation and distribution systems
o Oil-powered boiler heating system
o Two (2) separate HVAC systems
• Manage maintenance of mechanical equipment, including, but not limited to:
o Two (2) Zambonis
o Two (2) forklifts
o Registered 5886 kw boilers
o Registered three compressor 280 kw refrigeration compressors
• Schedule and manage transition periods for activities, maintenance requirements and logistics for all events.
• Ensure that all systems meet all government requirements and health and safety regulations.
• Ensure that all preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs are completed in a safe and efficient manner.
• Select, consult with, and manage purchases with various service providers.
• Oversee and provide input into the development of the Building Operations budget and capital plan.
• Supervise a diverse complement of staff including full-time and part-time unionized and non-unionized staff from tradespeople to general labourers in the Building Operations Department, including working with Human Resources on such areas as recruitment, labor relations, training, and evaluation.
• Participate in collective bargaining and ongoing labour management processes.
• Develop and recommend planning and development of policies and programs relating to Building Operations.
• Fulfilling all other duties as reasonably required.
Qualifications:
To be part of our senior management team in this role, you'll need the following:
• A Bachelor's Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of seven (7) years progressive management experience including the management of mechanical equipment.
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to plan, lead, manage and implement multi-disciplinary projects of various scopes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with organizational leaders and employees to drive performance, productivity and engagement while proactively minimizing conflict and deploying best practices.
• Well-developed communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to innovate, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to develop solid and productive working relationships.
• Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations as they relate to this type of facilities work, collective agreements, and related employment legislation.
